PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Featuring father Darrell Casey and sons David and Nathan, Watercarvers Guild
is an acoustic trio of multi-instrumentalist/singers who have been playing
together since David and Nathan were old enough to pick up instruments. While
they only decided to form into a three piece band in 2000, their lifelong rapport
(not to mention their refined skills as musicians and singers) is evident from
the moment they hit the stage.
With an onstage arsenal that includes guitars, mandolin, piano,
bouzouki, electric bass and three voices, Watercarvers Guild
has a habit of sounding a lot more than a typical folk trio,
putting together some of the best melodies and most intricate
arrangements this side of Nickel Creek.
With a father who is phenomenal on fingerstyle guitar and mandolin,
a son with talent to spare on piano and bouzouki, and another
son bringing rhythm to life on electric bass, this family group
is producing a new contemporary acoustic sound that is at once
refreshing and exhilarating. While their music shows influences
of Celtic, bluegrass, pop and folk, it’s the clever dialogue
between instruments and voices that is the signature sound of Watercarvers
Guild. Music is clearly its own language for this family band; and one that
they speak fluently.
Add to this mixture the warm, playful onstage ribbing between father
and sons, and Darrell Casey’s dazzling performance on solo fingerstyle guitar,
and you have a concert brimming over with more talent, variety and pure unadulterated
joy than anyone would expect from a single night’s performance.
"With Watercarvers Guild, every song is like a musical gem,
carved and polished to bring out the very best it can offer.”
