Straw into Gold
David Casey
Call me simplified
I still believe in some of those stories told to me
Call it cut and dried
A hand-me-down type, one shoe kind of melody
When I was a child
I was told spin straw into gold
Welcome come inside
Was all the man and women ever said to me
My eyes they open wide
Wrinkles on their faces appear magically
When I was a child
I was told spin straw into gold
Flower to seed, fields of wheat, straw into gold
Flour to bread, dreamers to bed, straw into gold
Beside the firelight
The spinning wheel is purring there so quietly
Time goes by and by
One by one the soft coins falling evenly
When I was a child
I was told spin straw into gold
